27th June 2004
Windsurfing: Hayling Island
Wind Direction: SW
Wind Stength: 20-25 knots
Surf / Sea State: Lumpy, no waves :(
Air Temperature: 21ºC
Sea Temperature: 14ºC
Weather: Perfect sunshine!!! :)
Max Speed:
Distance Covered:

Planned to watch the tiger then go for a sail with Martin and his brother who was coming down for the day. Martin phoned to say he was going to Calshot though and I fancied a bit of open sea wave action so I went to Hayling instead.

Turned up around 3.30pm to the sight of a brilliant blue sea glistening in the sunshine and covered everywhere with windsurfers zipping back and forth. Eeeexcellent.... But no waves though - ARSE. Bit pissed off with that since I timed my session with the rising tide, when I thought there should be some half-decent waves. But with the way things were would have been better off with the proper flat water on the Calshot lagoon. Anyway...not wanting to look a gift horse in the mouth....was proper windy so up went the 5.2 and out came the Quatro. As I was rigging up had the tiger on the car radio and he won his last set so a good omen for my session.

Had a good couple of hours blasting around properly powered up on the 5.2 rigged flat as poss. A couple of decent duck gybes on the inside, a couple of unsuccessful body drag attempts on the inside as well, a duck gybe attempt on the outside that felt proper wierd, and a few nice jumps. But other than that, basically just got stuck in the rut again of going for long runs on the way out looking for a ramp to jump off, gybing on the outside and falling in 9 times out of 10, then blasting back in again. Instead of just doing short runs and concentrating on the manouvers. The lumpy choppy messy crappy sea state probably didn't help with that though. I'm sure I would have done a lot better if I'd gone to the Calshot lagoon with Martin.

Not a particularly satisfying session performance-wise. But with weather as good as this a session can never get any less than 4 stars.

(PS it's warm, windy and sunny today 28th June. Again. It seems like every day for the past 3 or 4 weeks has been windy. Incredible. I'm putting off going for sails in perfect conditions cos I'm shagged from all this recent sailing I've been doing and I know I can afford to since still the forecast is calling for more wind this week!!!!! All good!!!)
